A barcode scans well when it's printed sharply, on a white background, with enough quiet space around it. Thermal labels are ideal: the print is black and precise with no ink bleed, and each label comes out exactly when you need it.
The most popular sizes are 40 x 25 mm and 50 x 25 mm for EAN codes and Amazon FNSKU labels, 40 x 30 and 50 x 30 mm when you add a price or description, and 60 x 40 mm for a barcode plus product text. In the office, A4 sheets with 40 or 65 labels run through a laser printer.
