VOID and hologram security labels: how tamper-evident labels work
What happens when someone peels a VOID label, why holograms are used as seals, and how to choose and number security labels.
A security label doesn't stop anyone from opening a box. It makes sure you can tell if someone did. That is what "tamper-evident" means.
VOID labels
A VOID label looks like a normal label until someone tries to remove it. When it is peeled off:
- a "VOID" pattern (or a similar message) stays behind on the surface, and
- the same pattern shows in the label itself, so it can't be stuck back down unnoticed.
They are used to seal cartons, cash and sample bags, device casings, meters and doors, and as warranty seals over screws.
Hologram labels
A hologram label carries a holographic image that changes with the viewing angle and is hard to copy. It is used:
- as a seal on packaging and documents, and
- as a sign that a product is genuine, together with a serial number.
Choosing the right one
| You want to… | Choose |
|---|---|
| see whether a box, bag or casing has been opened | VOID label |
| show that a product or document is genuine | hologram label |
| track every seal individually | either, with sequential numbers or barcodes |
The surface matters: a seal that works on smooth plastic can behave differently on rough cardboard. Tell us what you are sealing and how it is stored, and we will recommend the material.
Numbering and logging
Printing a sequential number or barcode on every label lets you record which seal went on which parcel, device or bag. If a seal arrives broken, you know exactly which one, and when it was applied.
We print VOID and hologram security labels with your logo, numbers or barcodes, on a roll. For durable equipment tags, see asset labels.
FAQ
What is a VOID label?
A tamper-evident label that leaves a "VOID" pattern on the surface when it is peeled off, so any attempt to remove it shows.
Can VOID labels be reused?
No. Once peeled, the pattern stays visible and the label cannot be put back without the tampering showing.
Can security labels be numbered?
Yes. Sequential numbers or barcodes let you log every seal.
